Kathmandu University Open Source Community (KUOSC), established in
2004 with the aim to host one such platform that will bring together
all the human being who understands or wants to understand Free/Open
Source Philosophy (i.e. Freedom to use, modify, and re-distribute).
KUOSC serves as an organization for promoting, advocating, developing
and distributing Open Source Softwares. It provides a plethora of
information regarding Free/Open Source Softwares (FOSS), so that any
user can easily access them and hence promote and persuade them to
adopt FOSS and so contribute to sustainable development of Information
Technology in Nepal.
Role :
The area of work for KUOSC apart from others will involve:
1. Foss Advocacy
2. Online Discussion Forums for FOSS
3. Publication and Documentation
4. Workshops and Trainings
5. Software Development, Documentation and Free Distribution
6. Communication and Coordination with other User Groups
7. A platform for socializing with people.
Vision:
“Creation of Liberate Information Society." KUOSC aspires to create
and intellectual liberate community having freedom to share knowledge,
from people to people, community to community and generation after
generation. It dreams of a pure software freedom in its true
dimensions, freedom with no bureaucracy or politics. It believes:
"Mutualism is the basis of evolution forbetter community."
Under the Coordination of Er. Chandan Raj Rupakheti, KUOSC was
established with the name "Kathmandu University Computer Club Open
Source Community". KUCCOSC was the wing of KUCC which restricted non-
KUCC members to lead the community. So the very next year the name was
changed to Kathmandu University Open Source Community which then
became the autonomous wing of KUCC. In
