Background
FOSS Nepal has established its own first ever FOSS Lab in Nepal in Brihaspati Vidya Sadan recently. In a very short history of FOSS Nepal it has managed to flow the idea of FOSS in the country and elsewhere. It is a leading umbrella body which is responsible for establishing the free and open source environment in the region. This event was inaugurated by honourable Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Mr. Ganesh Shah.
Objective
The prime objective of FOSS InfoMela is to create awareness about Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) to students and professional community. It will also highlight the FOSS achievements in Nepal and inform the general public about what FOSS Nepal is doing. This Mela will make a milestone in terms of issues regarding Free and Open Source Software in Nepal. The need, necessity and the urgency to use FOSS is pointed out during the mela.

Stalls
Open Source Software demo Many prevalent open source software were shown to public in order to get attention. The security issues of IE and comparison to Firefox was done. Open Office, Amarok, VLC ... were shown as open source alternatives.
Distro, CDs, nirvikalpa CDs, FOSS T-Shirts sales FOSS materials were sold and distributed in the program.
Pamphlets distribution The Software Challenge organized by D2 was highlighted.
Commercial companies ads Sponsors got a chance to put their ads in the program. Colleges, Institutions and education houses were promoted.
