About CICC
Computer and information technology plays a extremely important role in today's economy and society. Recent advances in technological innovation and the popularity of the Internet have further increased the importance. CICC was established in June 1983 to cooperate and assist developing countries in the introduction of computers and information technology, and to promote computerization thereby for their economic and social development. The headquarters, the training center and the International Information Technology Laboratory are located in Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo. CICC also has overseas office in Singapore.
The Center of the International Cooperation for Computerization (CICC) is a public - interest corporation to assist developing countries in their computerization. Ever since its foundation in 1983, CICC has implemented cooperation programs with support from member companies and other related organizations under the auspices of the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).
Since its inception, CICC has been involved in support programs that meet the expectations and specific needs of individual developing countries, including but not limited to the training program of human resources essential for the computerization of developing countries, joint development program for the solution of technical challenges common among developing countries, standardization promotion program for jointly setting up international standards, support program for information exchange and computerization through organizing the "Bilateral Conference on IT Cooperation" and other international conferences as well as making related information available.
AOSS Background
CICC has been promoting Open Source Software in Asia from March 2003. Human Resource Development has been identified as one of the bottlenecks relating to the wider use of OSS. So, this program has been initiated by the CICC Singapore office with the aim of creating a large number of OSS professionals to teach OSS in South and South-east Asia.
AOSS Objective
The main objective of training programs and workshops is to Identify and Develop Master trainers and developers for Asian OSS training community. Master trainers are OSS practioners, who can initiate, develop and implement training and other OSS programs in their countries. Through the workshop, Master trainers test and improve the OSS course material and other OSS promotional materials required for training and promoting OSS in each country of the Asian region. During this program importance of voluntary contribution and need for sustainable OSS training program in each country is stressed. Workshop/Training participants are expected to support and help in conducting Asia OSS programs in their countries.
